Eduardo Jordán is known the world over not by name but through his wines. Perhaps the strongest brand he has made wine for is De Martino, out of Maipo Valley in Chile. Eduardo earned his degree from the Catholic University of Chile and has worked at Viña De Martino, Chile. He has also traveled to the United States to continue perfecting his knowledge at the Château St Michelle Winery in the state of Washington.

He is actively participated in the search for new viticultural zones in Chile and makes a habit of visiting other wine regions to update his knowledge. His travels have taken him to the major wineries of South Africa and Spain, particularly Ribera del Duero, La Rioja, and Priorato.

Handpicked ‘Selections’
2009 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc by Peter Douglas

Marlborough’s vintage of 2008 was the largest on record and provided some very anxious moments due to mother nature. Despite the bumper crop, the quality of the wines have been excellent with some great flavours coming through.

The first Marlborough vines were planted in 1973 in what would become New Zealand’s largest and best known wine region. The distinctive pungency and zesty fruit flavours of the first wines placed the region on the map and generated worldwide interest in Marlborough wines, particularly Sauvignon Blanc.

The free-draining, alluvial loams over gravelly subsoils in the Wairau and Awatere River valleys provides ideal growing conditions. Abundant sunshine with cool nights and a long growing season helps to build and maintain the vibrant fruit flavours for which Marlborough is now famous.

Tasting notes
This classic Sauvignon Blanc is clear and bright with a colour of pale straw. A lovely citrus aroma blended with the ripe tropical flavours follow through as a rich well textured mouth feel balanced with crisp acidity. A fresh but complex wine with a lingering finish.
A wine to be enjoyed in the next 12-18 months.

pH. 3.46%
Alc/Vol 12.5%
Acidity 7.1 g/l
Residual Sugar 3.4 g/l

Tasting notes
This fine example of a Barossa Shiraz from the very good 2008 vintage has a rich and vibrant colour with black depths. Black fruits follow through on the nose intermingled with black pepper, cassis and black forest fruits with some sweet vanilla oak evidence.

The palate is rich with fruits and spice characteristics giving great length of flavour balanced with elegant tannins.

Harvest: Last week of February, 2008Maturation: 24 months in French and American oak hogsheads15% first use and 85% older
Bottles: April 2010.

Winemakers comments
Expert oak treatment gives this wine the structure and fruit balance which will continue to develop over the next ten years and beyond.
